I attended a 6 week fatigue management group run by the Occupational Therapy Department the group organisers were Lesley and Lorraine. Before I attended the group I was constantly tired but unable to sleep with the pain caused by my arthritis and fybomialgia. Over the course of the group I was helped to identify what caused me total fatigue and ways to help manage the better. There was loads of useful handouts and I still refer to my personal folder today if I’m having a particularly bad day and remembering what we discussed am able to be more positive and focused and deal with the pain more effectively.
The biggest change I got from the group was learning to meditate as I now do this every day and find it helps keep the stress of everyday life on a more manageable level. Since completing the group my sons have seen a massive difference in my outlook on life and I am a more happy and settled person. To me the group gave me such a positive and friendly place to share stories and ways to combat fatigue and extreme pain with others who feel the same as I do. As well as that they also helped me deal with issues at work that were aggravating my symptoms daily. This is definitely something I would recommend for anyone and guarantee they will leave after 6 weeks feeling more positive about themselves and the future.
