My GP surgery called City Care in front of me and made an appointment for a dressing change over the weekend for an infected surgical wound at the walk in centre.
The disinterested receptionist said that my name wasn't listed but eventually told me to sit down and wait.
The nurse that saw me said that the wound discharging pus was looking good despite it leaking right through the existing dressing. Interesting as there was no comparison. Had it been looking good the GP would not have sent me!
It was re-dressed with my own dressings but 2 layers had been stuck on top of one another so by the time I got home I realised that the entire wound/dressing was open down one side to the air and pus leaking out all over.
I was also advised that the centre was not there for dressing changes. So why was my GP surgery allowed to book it and why was there another patient behind me there for exactly the same thing on both weekend days? It made me feel unwelcome as if I was wasting their time when in fact they wasted mine. After a 4 bus round journey I had to go home and try to put right the poor unsecured dressing myself.
