This is an assessment ward where patients are initially brought to and then moved to appropriate wards. A difficult job for them where availability of beds is paramount. Unfortunately this means that some of the staff have no concept of the actual patient as they aren't used to building relationships. My care was sporadic, and when a surprise condition emerged which was medical and not surgical, I was told I shouldn't be on this ward - not pleasant when you are a person not a number. As with any workplace, the attitude starts from the top and unfortunately, a good example isn't set here as there's too much time spent gossiping when patients are in pain or need to be helped in some way. I'll be prepared to be ignored and left in pain should I end up on this ward. That said - there are a few real gems who made my stay bearable
