Having seen my optician in April last year for a routine eye test, she was concerned about my eyes and recommended an appointment with a consultantt for further investigations.
She wrote to my GP and I was given a hospital appointment for August. This was cancelled (no reason given) and I was given an appointment in October.
When I was finally seen, the doctor diagnosed Macular Degeneration. I was clearly upset, confused and concerned and was told that everyone has problems and was told of the doctors own health issues!!
I was given no information about the seriousness of this condition, no support, care advice or follow up appointment. I was traumatised by this experience and got the help I needed by calling the AMD Charity.
