"Eye clinic"

About: Wycombe Hospital

Having seen my optician in April last year for a routine eye test, she was concerned about my eyes and recommended an appointment with a consultantt for further investigations.

She wrote to my GP and I was given a hospital appointment for August. This was cancelled (no reason given) and I was given an appointment in October.

When I was finally seen, the doctor diagnosed Macular Degeneration. I was clearly upset, confused and concerned and was told that everyone has problems and was told of the doctors own health issues!!

I was given no information about the seriousness of this condition, no support, care advice or follow up appointment. I was traumatised by this experience and got the help I needed by calling the AMD Charity.

Dear Sir/Madam

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at High Wycombe Hospital. I am sorry to learn that your appointment for August 2018 was moved to October 2018 which added to your anxiety and concern. I am also sorry that the consultation was not as you would have liked and that you were left without adequate information to understand you condition.

If you would like to take this matter further with us I would be very grateful if you could contact the Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) on 01296 316042 to talk about your specific experience, and to see how we may be able to assist you at this time.
