Early in 2017 I was diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa, My mum did everything to get me the help I needed. Having and appointment first with SYEDA (South Yorkshire Eating Disorders Association) we were directed towards SEDS (Sheffield Eating Disorders Service). My doctor didn't think that I would be seen in the near future so didn't refer me earlier, pushing for the referral my mum was adamant that we should try and within a couple of days they scheduled a meeting for us.
Assessing me they Suggested I try their outpatient service which I agreed to. Before meeting the other patients and fully attending the service I had a trial meal with a member of staff to see if I could handle what was required - going well I met everyone for snack the next day and started that Friday. Without SEDS I would not be where I am today in my recovery, I can whole heartedly say they saved my life.
The staff were so supportive and caring, running sessions on cooking, body image, selfcare, relationships, CBT I felt safe to talk about everything that troubled me. After 6 months of hard work and commitment to recovery I left SEDS being a healthy weight. Still needing more support: SEDS were brilliant in offering more therapy sessions which I had once a week to help make the transition to normal life a lot easier. 2 years on I am back at University, I have a job and have recently bought my first car. Recovery is something that I choose every day and If it weren't for the service I attended I don't think I would be living the life I am today.
