"Poor ultrasound experiences"

About: Darent Valley Hospital / Maternity

(as a service user),

My partner and I have had both the 12 week and 20 week ultrasound scans to check the progress of our first baby, obviously a very exciting time for us and we were left deflated on both occasions by the staff on the day.

Reception staff were very apathetic on the day of our 12 week scan, you could definitely tell they didn't want to be there. When we entered the scan room, the overall vibe was cold and we didn't feel that we could ask questions. No attempt to engage in any kind of conversation before the scan began, no general pleasantries.

The 20 week scan was even worse, the sonographer didn't answer even simple questions such as where the baby is positioned etc, they didn't explain anything that they were doing so we just had to watch in complete silence. The room was hot and towards the end of the scan I began to feel faint and unwell and they showed no concern what so ever and made themselves busy with notes, I requested a bowl because I felt sick and my mum had to retrieve one for me. It was like the sonogropher was just going through the motions, they were physically in the room but mentally not. We managed to get a couple of decent pictures but the rest are blurred and it's impossible to make out what we are looking at.

Overall very disappointed with our experience with this department, I've heard good things about the labor and delivery team so we are looking forward to better care when baby is due.

Dear Disappointedmama

We were sorry to read that on both occasions in our scanning department your experiences at our hospital were not positive ones. This is certainly not something we like to hear, so have shared your review with the department manager. We look forward to welcoming you back when you have your baby with us.

Kind regards

The Communications Team
