"Care received during mesh complications"

About: Biggart Hospital / Physiotherapy Crosshouse Hospital / Gynaecology Heathfield Suite / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

For the last 10 years I have been suffering painful complications after mesh was implanted due to pelvic organ prolapse. This is not about the struggle I had to get the mesh removed (over 3 years ago) as it wasn’t removed fully and I still live with ‘some’ inside me. This is about the daily struggle I go through to try and access the care I need.

I now live with a prolapsed bowel, bladder and vaginal vault. I am currently attending continence services/physio to try and support my symptoms. Unfortunately I do not wet myself enough to receive nhs pads and have to purchase myself. I need to irrigate regularly to empty my bowels. My main struggle is to find out exactly how much mesh remains and find out where. I know through research that it hardens and migrates, yet I can’t get the scan I need to pinpoint the route of my problem on the NHS. I will have to travel to England and pay privately for it. I do not think this is good enough.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Mummyinpain,

I am so sorry to hear of your experience and cannot imagine how difficult this has made your life on a day-to-day basis. It would be helpful if you could contact me or email me your name and date of birth to allow us to consider the issues that you have raised more fully. If you would like me to do so, could you please email me at eunice.goodwin@aapct.scot.nhs.uk. I have passed your post to the Gynaecology management team who would be able to review your situation if they had the further details requested.

Kindest regards,

Eunice
