In January I had a quite unexpected fall in the street and somehow split my left middle finger quite deeply across the inside of the second knuckle. In A & E this was cleaned and bandaged, and I was told that a plastic surgery unit had just been set up and that I could have an appointment the next day; otherwise I would have had to go to Hull. The following day I had a minor operation, with local anaesthetic, carried out by Mr. Lim and his team, which cleaned out the wound completely and stitched it up, and my left hand was wrapped. A week later I had another appointment, when the hand was unwrapped; everything was stated to be looking good, and the finger was taped to the middle finger. My wife saw how this was done and we were given tape, gauze and dressings to use; I was also told of a simple exercise to get the finger back to bending normally. I had a final appointment at the beginning of this month, when the wound was washed and most scabs removed, and I was given clear advice on how it could be expected to heal completely. All of this was carried out with great efficiency and every effort to put me at ease, and I would like to record my profound thanks for my treatment, and my general impression that this was a well-functioning and effective unit.
