I made the decision to visit the Marie Stopes clinic in Maidstone as I felt it’s not the right time for me to have children yet. I was referred by my local sexual health centre and within a few days I had a phone assessment. They gathered from this that I was about 6 weeks and the call ended with me being instructed to wait for another call for the date of the abortion. They called me not too long after and I was given a date 1 week later, which was the longest week of my life. On the day, I arrived with my partner and was greeted by a friendly receptionist who instructed us to sit in the waiting room, music was playing which kept the atmosphere less awkward. I was then called to go for my scan to check how far gone I was. I could not fault the lady who did my scan one bit, she was so kind and friendly to make me feel at ease, it was the best service I have received in any hospital / surgery environment. After this I then had to wait to be called in to take the tablet. Now the nurse who did this part was very nice but due to the nature of this part it was a lot more serious and felt very daunting. There was a lot to take in but I was given a booklet just in case I forgot anything that was said. I felt in very safe hands. After taking the tablets I could then leave. I want to thank the staff here for making my experience as comfortable as possible, I didn’t feel judged and felt very reassured and confident with my decision.
