Aged 70 I started to leak urine occasionally and also have occasional lack of bowel control resulting in an accident. I saw a poster for the Continence Clinic in Shepton mallet and made an appointment. My GP had not mentioned this clinic to me. My appointment with Specialist Nurse Jill was extremely helpful: she was very understanding and warm, suggesting several practical steps I could take - reducing caffeine intake, putting golden linseed (flaxseed) on my cereal, having plenty of fluid and doing pelvic floor exercises. She explained exactly how to do these. She also told me how to get a Radar Key for disabled toilets and suggested sensible precautions like carrying spare pants and tissues/wipes,, using pads sometimes and finding out where toilets are when you are out and about.
I am doing all these things and my situation has improved. I was discharged after my follow-up appointment but have a phone number to call if I need any more help. I am very pleased indeed with this service.
