"A Shoulder Injury"

About: East Ayrshire Community Hospital / Physiotherapy University Hospital Ayr / Physiotherapy

(as a service user),

I hurt my left shoulder during a house move in June 2017, and although it was extremely painful, I thought it would get better with time - it did not!

After the injury happened, my wife and I moved to Spain, to try out the Spanish way of life for our retirement, but we could not settle, and returned to Ayrshire, Scotland in December 2017. So for a period of about 9 months, I was not registered with a GP, and never sought any medical advice about my shoulder, which got progressively worse as time went on.

After contacting Physio Direct on instructions from one of our medical practice nurses in May 2018, and going through their vetting procedures, I was referred to Physiotherapist at the East Ayrshire Community Hospital, Cumnock. I attended several sessions at the hospital, and received a Corticosteriod injection on in September 2018, which offered some temporary relief of my symptoms, but this only lasted for a few days.

I attended several more Physio consultations between September and January, and was advised that the next step I should consider was an ultrasound targeted Corticosteriod injection. This was arranged for late January, and was carried out very efficiently and effectively by Physiotherapist Lyndsey at Ayr Hospital.

I noted a huge reduction in the pain from my shoulder on the day of the injection, and it has steadily reduced day by day ever since.

I wish to take this opportunity to thank all of the NHS staff who have treated me over the last year, the service is wonderful and the people are exceptional in every way.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Bert-S,

OUCH, I can really understand this. I also ignored a shoulder issue believing it would heal itself and it didn't either. It is wonderful to have such excellent help from the physiotherapists and of course others involved too.

I will be delighted to pass this to the Lyndsey and the teams at Ayr Hospital and East Ayrshire Community Hospital. I am sure it will make their day.

Thank you for taking time to share this with us. All the best for your onward recovery.

Eunice
