"Don't bring your children to this A&E"

About: Royal Bolton Hospital

What could be improved

Tonight our grandson was taken into the childrensA&E - we are I fact still sat here with a poorley 2 year old. It is 1.12am (yes in the morning) and we have been here several hours already. Staff are unwilling or unable to give us an idea of when we will see the doctor. Rumours are its a 4 hour wait. It is unacceptable that a child should have to wait so long to be seen at any hour but, at this time of night it's barbaric.

I appreciate your concern that you were not informed of how long you would have to wait to be seen and apologise for this as this should have been communicated to you. Patients attending the Emergency Department are assessed and very sick patients always take priority. This sometimes causes delays for less urgent cases. I appreciate that for relatives dealing with a poorly child it is difficult at the best of times and when it is late at night it always seems worse. I would like to assure you that we try to avoid long waits for children, but when our staff are busy with very serious cases unfortunately delays may happen.

If you would like to discuss this further please contact me, Sue Franklin, Departmental Manager, on 01204 390252 or the Patient Advice and Liaison Team on 01204 390193.
