"Achilles Debridement and care/aftercare"

About: Grantham & District Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

Overall, I received excellent care whilst attending day surgery for the above operation. All of the team from the day ward, to the theatre and recovery room were all very professional, attentive and caring - a great team.

My only concern is with the physiotherapy team who I feel, in hindsight, should have offered more guidance on being non weight bearing, along with a holistic assessment. This would have given them insight in to my home situation, we do not all have family around us or partners to help in such situations.

I feel that if I had been loaned minor equipment such as a perching stool, shower stool or bath seat then my struggles would have been minimised. I have found it extremely difficult managing independently on one leg.

Equipment minimises risk which in turn prevents injury and readmission which we should be aiming for so as not to incur further expense to our NHS

Again I would like to reiterate that my experience recently and also previously at the endoscopy ward has been excellent.

Many thanks.

Dear patient story

Thank you for sharing your story about your recent experiences at Grantham Hospital and I have shared your great feedback with the teams on Day Ward and Theatres who were thrilled to read such good comments.

In relation to the negative side of your story, I have shared your experience with the site physiotherapy lead for Grantham so they will be able to share your words with the team. If you'd like to speak with our PALS team (PALS@ulh.nhs.uk) who can take some personal details from you and the site lead can look into your particular episode of care and learn from any mistakes that were made.

Regards

Sharon
