"I’m reminded how lucky we are."

About: Royal Aberdeen children’s hospital

(as a parent/guardian),

So many people moan about the NHS, long waiting lists, not enough staff etc and yes I know some warrant their complaints especially those who spend long periods of times in hospital but not once in the 10 years my daughter has needed specialist care have I had one complaint and again I’m reminded how lucky we are.

My daughter had an appointment with plastic surgery about a small cyst that’s been growing on her face. We’ve been on the waiting list a while but were seen a little quicker as an evening clinic was opened. I expected to go in and have to push for her to have the op as it’s not causing any major issues at all at the moment but is growing but we were met with the kindest, most understanding specialist.

He shook both her and my hand both when we arrived and left, he spoke to my daughter like he would someone without any disability and he was so calm, understanding and in no rush at all. He said he’ll remove the cyst when she’s in for her next procedure and to leave it all to him to coordinate and organise with the other department. I just felt so lucky leaving the hospital that we have such a fantastic service here ❤️
