I recently had the unfortunate pleasure of having a distal pancreatectomy and splenectomy at Queen Elizabeth hospital.
This was a terrifying experience for me and my first surgery.
I have only praise for the care that I received and admiration for all of the professionals that I encountered. All of the staff on the ward ensure that patients are valued and understood.
They were never too busy and whilst tending to needs, despite having a million other things to do, they made me feel as if my recovery was their priority.
They listened and responded with clear consistent advice and are dedicated to giving the best possible treatment.
The team that took me to surgery demonstrated care and compassion and the anesthetist made me feel safe and in good hands. All staff are professional and conversations heard are about patients and treatments and it is clear it is a team approach.
Information given to me was clear and consise and there was a wealth of expertise available if needed. I was encouraged to progress at my own pace and personal needs were tended to discretely.
My surgeon visited me after the operation and took the time to answer any of my questions and concerns.
I am so grateful for the wonderful care I received. I do hope that the coming together of the hospitals into one trust will mean that good practice is deseminated as there is a lot to be learnt.
Thank you for making what was an extremely difficult time for me and my family easier.
You are doing a fantastic job in difficult circumstances.
