"End of life care"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Respiratory Medicine (Breathing and Lung Problems)

(as a relative),

My dad unfortunately died in ward 107 pretty suddenly on the 2nd of January. The support we received as a family and the care that my dad received was second to none.

Nothing was too much trouble and even though my dad required a lot of care and attention the staff couldn’t have been any more patient and helpful. From the gentle way we were communicated with by the medical staff about the poor prognosis, the prompt and high quality medical and nursing care delivered to the privacy we were given to spend our last few days with my dad, everyone was so kind and helpful.

I would especially like to thank Mike and Kirsten who were stand outs for us but I can honestly say that everyone treated my dad thoughtfully and with compassion. To the senior charge nurse Amelia I would like to say a huge thank you. I know you weren’t there but your team are a credit to you.

As a nurse myself I sincerely hope that all families in our situation are left with the same feelings of gratitude and respect for the work that NHS staff do in challenging circumstances.

Dear TNC1903

Many thanks for taking the time to share your experience when your dad died suddenly in ward 107. I appreciate that this must be such a difficult time for you and your family.

I am so pleased that the team in ward 107 were able to provide such care for your dad whilst allowing you the privacy that you needed as a family. It is so important for families to spend this time with their loved ones knowing that they are receiving the level of care and compassion that they need.

Amelia will indeed be very proud of her team and we will share your thanks and kind words with all the staff especially Mike and Kirsten who made such an impact. These staff members will be delighted with your comments regarding the care that they were able to deliver to your dad in his last few days.

Please take care of yourself at this time and thanks so much for sharing your experience - it means a lot to the staff working in the wards to receive such positive feedback.

With best wishes

Fiona
