Unfortunately I had to attend A&E after taking an overdose (attempted suicide). Despite all of this the staff were hugely respectful of me.
I can not fault the care of the A&E staff in anyway, I was in the middle of a complete breakdown and was non-compliant (it took 3 of them to get a catheter in!), I also tried to run away from the ward. The staff took the time to speak to me, get me a drink and explain to me what was happening. I would love to thank Joe (staff nurse) especially as he was completely amazing, as was other Joe (physician assistant) and another female nurse (who I can’t remember the name of), whom took the time to share her story with me which really helped, were also really nice.I was then admitted to ward 101 AMIA overnight and into the next day and again the staff were brilliant, especially Graeme the consultant, who took time to explain thing to me about what the drugs I was put on were doing to my body. The only fault I could find in the entire thing was that the nurses could have done to have been a bit more open to sharing what the drugs were doing to me, if they had the knowledge. However they were extremely busy and it did feel, especially overnight, that they were maybe short staffed, which obviously isn’t their fault, even they have to deal with the consequences.
