"Fantastic Care from Derwent Ward"

About: Royal Bournemouth General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a relative),

Amazing care received on the Derwent Ward at Bournemouth Hospital.   The compassion, good humour, dignity, care and professionalism of all the staff I am certain goes a long way to aid recovery.  In addition the private rooms allows those who need it time to sleep when they are able as often pain prevents this being at 'regular' times and also enables easy access to toilets for those who are less mobile.    Private rooms particularly valuable where a younger person is receiving care for a condition which is more common in older people, allowing them privacy and the ability to lead a more regular life during recovery, whether that's chatting with friends, staying up a little later or using a tablet to catch up with important work issues.

All the staff involved with the Derwent Ward should be proud of themselves.  An amazing facility both accommodation wise and staff wise.

Dear ‘Grateful Relative 1’

Thank you for sharing your observations of the Derwent Ward while supporting a younger patient through treatment and recovery. We are indeed grateful to have such facilities like the Derwent ward as part of our hospital, especially so close to the lake and gardens.

We have also received a reply from the Orthopaedic Matron and she has asked me to share it with you.

“The Orthopaedic team on Derwent ward were absolutely delighted to receive your feedback and thank you for your very positive comments about your experience of our services. Coming into hospital for surgery can be very daunting for patients and your comments could provide them with the reassurance they needed to alleviate any worries or concerns. We value your very kind words.”

We hope your relative is now well on their way to recovery and enjoying an improved quality of life post surgery.

Regards

Patient Experience Team
