"I am hopeless and frustrated! I was treated badly!"

About: Queen's Hospital / Gynaecology

I was referred to Queens Hospital (Romford) fertility department by my GP for an IVF.

I had my initial appointment with a doctor who gave me and partner forms for blood tests and semen analysis. I have done my blood tests on 7th November 2018 and 20.11.18 in Queens Hospital. My partner has done his semen analysis as well and now he is booked for more blood tests.

On Thursday 29th October I received a letter from the fertility department of Queens hospital stating that my recent Rubella shows that I am not immune and would require 2 doses of MMR. I contacted the fertility department straight away and spoke to a lady from the fertility unit (she refused to give me her last name). I tried explaining to her that I have 2 autoimmune diseases and my immune system is not in the best condition to be getting an additional vaccine. She told me the only way to get fertility treatment and maybe get an IVF afterwords is to get the vaccination, otherwise i have no chance, regardless of my illness and medical history. She refused to give me the results from my other blood tests and advised me to book an appointment with my GP to discuss the Rubella vaccine and the rest of the results. She assured me My GP have a copy of the results.

I have booked an appointment for Sunday 2nd November to discuss my blood results and Rubella options with an out of hours GP who had access to my full medical file but he was not able to locate any blood test results from Queens hospital. On Monday 3th November (today) i contacted my GP Practise to double check if they have my test results from the fertility tests but they couldn't find anything. Then I called the same lady from the Fertility department of Queens hospital again and she told me different things from what she last advised me on Thursday last week- her version changed completely. She told me i had to ask my GP to send a request to her and then she will fax my blood test results. I had to call my GP practice one more time and they said they never send requests and usually the hospital where the blood test is done sends a copy of the results to them directly. When i called that same lady from the fertility department AGAIN, she was extremely unhelpful and rude. She asked me for my GP practice phone number and she said she was going to call them when she got time because she was busy at the time when we spoke. The whole time she was harsh, she wasn't helpful, she had no tact, in fact she made me cry each time I spoke to her. I have never had such a bad and disappointing experience with a medical representative who should be there to help people, not to make their lives harder and miserable. All I wanted was to get help from someone and to be able to get my tests results but now I am stuck. I am going around in circles.I would like to know more about disciplinary policies in situations like this? No one deserves to be treated like this! How do I take this further? Would my bad review reflect on my future treatment?

Thank you for making us aware of your experience, I am so sorry to hear the concerns that you have raised regarding the member of staff in our Fertility Department. I am so sorry to hear that when you contacted the Department the staff member you spoke to was unhelpful and was harsh and made you very upset. I would encourage you to contact our Patient, Advice and Liaison Service (PALS), as they will do all they can to help you get your blood test results to your GP. The PALS Service can be contacted on 01708 435 454, or by email bhrut.pals@nhs.net. Once again, thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback.

Kind Regards
