In June I returned from a cruise to find a letter on the doormat telling me I had appointment with the Breast Screening team at Kent and Canterbury Hospital following a recent 'Scan in the Van'. I attended thinking, surely nothing is wrong, I can't feel any lumps? To cut a long story short and following biopsies, scans, MRI etc 2 types of cancer were found in one breast and in August I had a mastectomy performed by the wonderful Mr Williams and his team at the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford. Since then I have had various treatments including radiotherapy. From the ladies in the van to the team in the oncology unit at Canterbury, I have had the most amazing care. Everyone, without exception and however busy they are, has treated me with patience, understanding and with such a caring ethos, this has led me to feel totally confident in every part of the procedures. I know that all this excellent treatment has helped me cope at such a stressful time and aided my recovery. Plenty of information is given to peruse in your own time thanks to Breast Cancer Care and MacMillan. It is very reassuring to know that I always have Louise or Fiona at the end of the phone should I need them. Definitely the NHS at its best.
