"time wasting, frustrating, ensuring the NHS..."

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

What I liked

Visited OPD today, chest clinic, all the nursing staff we met were most helpful and dealt with patients efficiently

What could be improved

Why does this hspital have an appointment system? We waited one hour 20 mins beyond our stated appointment time and then had a consultation of less than 4 mins.

90% of our appointment times are not kept, Why?

Does the managemtent of this hospital realise that I have a job, how am I expected tpo deal with my working week when they seem to believe that it is acceptable for them to delay me by sitting in OPD, time which I then have to make up at the end of the week, even though I am already ill, dealing with two LTC which mean my health is not good. Keeping your job in these times is a challenge, CHS seems to want to work against you to ensure you put your job at risk. Who gave you the right to do that?

What are you going to do about it?

After seeing the consultant I was then told I needed an urgent test this week and to come back and see him next Friday. The sister then left the consulting room with us and asked us to wait. She came back and said the technician could not do the test by next Friday and so we would just have to wait and been seen whenever. At what point did the advice and will of the consultant become superceded by a technician. Who is taking responsibility for care here? Clearly not clinicians. My last urgent appt took 3 weeks..here we go again. This is irresponsible care of patients.

Anything else?

I look forward to a response re the above and hope it is not again a series of meaningly platitudes

Thank you for your comment, if you would like to email us at corporate.affairs@chsft.nhs.uk then we will address your issue personally regarding your tests and your urgent appointment.

We would agree that it is not acceptable for patients to wait extensive periods of time for an appointment and apologise for this. Although we do make efforts to ensure that people's appointment times are kept, this is not always possible depending on the patients in the clinic and the issues which present to the hospital on that day. Please do contact us so that we can assist you.
