"Ambulance admission to AandE department Royal Preston Hospital"

My son was brought by ambulance, accompanied by myself, to Royal Preston Hospital just after midnight with a urosepsis U. T. I. we waited on a trolley in the corridor with the paramedics before a member of staff became available to hand over.

After the handover my son's pulse, temp, bp and resps were taken about twice, we then had to wait till about 2am before a bed became available. in this time of ABC D and E the exposure of the body was only looked at about 4am when although there was an indwelling catheter and possible infection the abdomen was distended and bladder full. quickly the nurse ordered a recatheterization which was performed and the urine looked like tea or dirty dishwasher, they ordered a C. S. U. and said they were awaiting blood results! I said no bloods had been taken, at this stage they panicked and got a cannula in and said we are treating it as urosepsis and would need IV Gentamycin.

The nurse went on the phone and first of all said my son had a brain injury since a child! (NO he had a complex form of meningitis when he was 21yrs which left him with a brain injury) this surely is irrelevant to the case, they stated about his urine and that he would need iv antibiotics and the reply was give him oral antibiotics! Well they slammed the phone down and said "this is the worst shift ever!". Well the nurse soon had to get back on the phone because I went to them and said my son needs IV antibiotics because he was beginning to get confused and very focal which is so out of character.

Why did it take so long for my son to be seen?
