"Dissappointment with day unit"

About: Princess Anne Hospital / Maternity care

On Oct 2nd, at 38 weeks pregnancy, my wife was asked to go to day assessment unit after her normal checkup with her midwife late afternoon during the day. She reported a reduced baby movement and was recommended for a CTG at Princess Anne(PAH). We arrived at PAH at 7pm and she was attended by a midwife right away. I left home with my 8 yo daughter to change and rest.

She completed her CTG about an hour later and told to wait for Doctor’s review. More patients come to the day unit and as she has completed her ctg, she was asked to wait on the chair outside while waiting for Doctor. She waited until 10pm but they were no Doctor available. I came back to hospital at 1030pm with my daughter who has been asleep in the car to bring her food and with the hope that she would finish her assessment. I waited in the car as my daughter was sleeping but she was only be attended at around 1230am. We communicated by phone and to our surprised, ctg has to be done again due to reading error for the first ctg. We ended up leaving the hospital at 230am just to find out that the baby is fine but we were both in deep stress due to this event.

Total treatment duration of 7 hours but 5 hours of waiting is something that is unacceptable especially by a well known and reputable hospital like Princess Anne. Unnecessary stress to a 38 weeks pregnant mother and her family could be avoided if the hospital has a sufficient number of competent staff. Information was not delivered effectively by the staff to my wife causes additional stress. She was told to wait in the waiting room and waited for 5 hours on an uncomfortable chair causing her a backpain.

Please do something to avoid this to happen to another mother/mother to be. Thanks.
