"One bad egg"

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary / Maternity

Childbirth is one of the most challenging experiences a woman goes through in her life. Finding myself in sudden preterm labour made this even harder. I can not fault the care and attention I received from 99% of the staff who attended to me during my labour. My faith is one of the most important things to me. With the prospect of an emergency C-section without any of my family present, I could only rely on my faith. To avoid panicking, I played a Christian song on my phone as I was being rushed to theatre. This was MY labour, and should be patient focused. Holistic care includes my faith. However, the one bad egg was a consultant who said ‘that racket was not helping anyone one’ and insisted it should be switched off.’Not only did I find this rude, I found it very disrespectful as it was something of great importance to me.

This consultant went on to demand that I sit up

during a contraction, I was not immediately able to due to

The pain, he then grabbed the gas and air from me

And said he would not give it back to me until I sat up! I was treated like a naughty 3 year old child not a grown woman in agonising labour pain! To say he was rude is an understatement. Everyone else 10/10 real credit to the NHS! But it’s the one bad egg!!!
