"Best Start"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Maternity Care

(as the patient),

I was transferred to Best Start 3 days before my due date.

When my waters broke 2 days early I was without an assigned midwife.

We used the on call mobile number and was met with one most amazing people on this earth. Gillian came to our house and put me at ease straight away. She followed us to the hospital, could not have been more attentive and even stayed over her shift to see the birth of our daughter. She has then visited us at home multiple times, is always available to call and text and nothing is too much trouble to her. She is a credit to the NHS and the pilot scheme.

My only criticism is that the community breastfeeding support team have called twice and despite my request for support they are reluctant to visit me to provide this.

Hi KJP89,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on Care Opinion, your views are extremely important to us and help us shape the service we provide. I'm delighted to hear you had such a positive experience with our new Best Start Team and I will certainly pass on your kind words to Gillian and the team.

However, I was disappointed to hear about your experience with Infant Feeding Support. I'd be grateful if you could get in touch with me so we can discuss it further and look at how we can make things better.

In the meantime, I'd like to wish you and your family all the very best at such an exciting and busy time.

Kind regards,

Liz Walsh

Dear KJP89

Thank you for sharing your experience of our service on Care Opinion. It was disappointed to read that your experience of the Infant Feeding Support Service was not as we would have hoped.

We are sorry this was your experience, usually the team would provide immediate telephone advice and arrange a visit within the next day. Please get in touch with me so we can look into this further and make sure you get the support you require.

May I take this opportunity to congratulate you on the safe arrival of your baby and wish you and your family the very best.

kind regards

Elaine Drennan

Elaine/Liz,

Thank you for replying. I have just been visited by the breastfeeding support team and they were very helpful.

I had requested they come out to help me with positioning at home but as baby had lost very little weight the first lady I spoke to suggested I was "doing fine".
