"A wonderful interaction"

About: Borders General Hospital

(as a service user),

I witnessed a wonderful interaction between an apparently confused patient and a RVS shop volunteer at the BGH. The volunteer did not dismiss the person or ignore what they were saying - rather, she took time to listen to their concerns and treated him with respect and dignity. The volunteer then helped the care assistant who was with the person to get a wheelchair for them so that they could return to their ward and discuss their concerns - all of this with the patient's full involvement and consent, I should add.

Dear Grateful for such people,

What a truely lovely story! Our RVS volunteers are caring, compassionate individuals who go out of their way to support us as an organisation and patients and relatives as individuals. Many larger hospitals seem to have lost this connection in favour of larger retailers and I think this is a real shame. Your story is a lovely example of the wider community working for our local community and I hope that we never lose this within the Borders!

Thank you for taking the time to tell us this story via Care Opinion. We will make sure that your kind words reach the correct people!

Best wishes,

Lynn
