"Had my first child at Watford general and it was awful"

About: Watford General Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

All started when I went for my Sweep at the midwife and she had told me I was already 4cm and I should go to the hospital, so me and hubby went home to pack to get ready for the birth of our first child, on arrival at the maternity they placed us in a lovely on suite room, nurse came in and broke my front and back waters straight away (leaving g a cut on my babys head), from that point I was in agony as I didn't have any pains before had apart from usual back ache!

They moved me out of the room and in to a horrible room that looked like a dentist. After 16 hours of screaming in pain on just gas and air they decided to give me the pethidine which by this time did nothing to ease the pain as I was in dry birth and back labour! The midwife was so rude to me constantly having a go at me for the way I was talking to my partner, she even had the nerve to take him aside and ask about our personal life to which he responded for her to mind her own business and of course I was angry with him I was in so much pain.

Another 5 hours had gone by and the midwife told me to stop screaming as I'm scaring other women, I eventually broke a back tooth off the gas and air pipe from biting down on it so hard (I now have no back tooth), nurse came in and put my tooth in the bin saying it was disgusting, same midwife tried to put a drip in my hand and nearly injected a air bubble in my hand until my partner and mother was telling her to take it out, so she did just before it reached the needle in my hand. I begged for a epidural and eventually they agreed and placed the tube in my back but no pain killer, then they gave me a catheter and I was screaming in so much pain because it was burning so bad, turns out it was latex and I'm actually allergic to latex, but the nurse put it in twice because she told me that the first time pain was in my head. It still burnt the second time to the point she had to remove it because I was willing to remove it myself. It made genitalia swell up and burn, I went into minor shock

Eventually mine and babys heartrate was so high that they took me for a forceps delivery, I eventually had got given the epidural pain relief before prepping for delivery, delivery was standard they had to cut me, but straight after my daughter was born they told me that the afterbirth injection does not exist and they have to remove it manually. As the doctor was doing this they turnt out one of the surgery lights and left the other one on, the one that was off acted as a mirror and I could see everything she was doing but I was grateful I couldn't feel it.

I then got wheeled to recovery to be on a drip four another for hours then to be put on a ward and partner kicked out of the hospital as he couldn't stay. The next day the midwife had no reason to keep in the hospital the baby was fine, I was fine, I was checking all the boxes for her to discharge me. I asked for help breastfeeding and she wouldn't help and I ended up bleeding from my nipples through doing it wrong. She kept saying that I was next to leave when me or relatives was asking until 8pm at night me and partner had enough and discharged myself. The next night I literally delivered a massive chunk of afterbirth bigger then my hand which I shown to midwife and she Confirmed.

Watford general reported me and partner to social services saying that I wasn't registered with there hospital to give birth! ! Luckily I kept everything anti natal appointment, every scan appointment letters and used that as proof. It seems like Watford maternity knew they messed up so they literally got rid of my notes.

Worst experience I have ever encountered in my life and I will never forget or forgive. I have gone on to have two more children since then and neither of them was any stress like that. In total Watford general left me in full blown dry labor for nearly 52 hours. My daughter suffered short term deafness which has had a lasting effect on her speach. I will never recommend Watford general for anything.
