Had breathing problems & swollen feet/legs but otherwise feeling ok. Went to surgery for flu jab & fasting blood test. Nurse checked pulse & had trouble finding it very low. Gave me an ECG, then made me wait to see doctor. He said he'd never seen such a low pulse before & told me to go to hospital, recommending Ealing Hospital. Went straight to hospital A&E presented letter written by my GP, within 30mins was taking in & put on machine, later that evening put into high dependency cardiac ward. Put on water tablets & injection, lost 4kilos water in 2 days. After breathing & swollen feet improved, allowed to shower etc. Kept in over weekend & on Monday first thing fitted with a pacemaker, kept overnight & discharged Monday. The whole stay I was treated with care & respect, apart from the food I felt almost like I was in a hotel. I cannot sing the praises enough to Broadmead Surgery whose nurse Joy first noted the problem, passed it to Dr Swain who was on the ball & wrote to the hospital, plus all at Ealing Hospital A&E and the cardiac ward. God bless the NHS
