I'm a psychiatric nurse. In July 2011 i was diagnosed with diabetes type 2 disease which was due to weight gain and poor eating habits.
After meeting with my GP I was referred to Liz at Active Lifestyle in Hull to get info about healthy eating weight loss etc. I was initially very nervous and self conscious, but Liz soon put me at ease discussing the various options and gave me info, dietary tips about foods portions, exercise.
I was referred to a gym (I had never stepped foot inside a gym in my life) and I was given a diet sheet re: healthy eating etc.
Within 2 weeks I had lost 1.5 lbs which i was pleased with. I began going to a local gym supported by exercise on prescription. Within two months i had gone from a starting weight of 16st 13.5 lbs to 15st 8.5lbs. This was all supported by Liz my lifestyle co-ordinator who continually offered reassurance support and advice.
My last session was yesterday, 7 months after commencing the active lifestyle. I now have lost 3st 1lb and am on target for my optimum weight of 12st 6lb. This would not have happened without the support help care reassurance and understanding of the active lifestyle team.
