My son is now 7 and was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea 3 years ago. We were advised an adenotonsillectomy would help improve the quality of his sleep by Dr Street. Myself and my husband were not sure this was the appropriate treatment for him as he had never had any episodes of tonsillitis or day time symptoms of extreme coughing. We were concerned that it was an extreme procedure for a child with sleeping difficulties and continually questioned Dr Streets judgement. We requested further opinions from other departments. Dr Street referred us to Respiratory and also arranged blood tests to find out about any allergies etc. All the results came back and in his opinion the surgery was still the best option. He listened to our comments and concerns and was always supportive and re assuring that the surgery would benefit our son. He never pressurized us to make a decision and was always willing to listen.
We decided to go ahead with the surgery and on the day of surgery he visited us before the operation and the next day in hospital, which i thought was very thoughtful of him. Since having his operation my child's quality of sleep has improved significantly. He no longer snores loudly or sleeps with his head hanging of his bed. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr Street for his advice, his patience and co-operation. He always friendly, approachable and allowed us time to make decisions, yet professional and knowledgeable at all times. Thank you.
