"Excellent Antenatal and Post Birth care"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus / Maternity care

Thank you to all the Doctors, Nurses and Midwives who helped me through my high-risk pregnancy.

From the first contact with the Consultants at 12 weeks through to discharge after I had my baby, I cannot fault the high standard of care and support I was given throughout my pregnancy and after birth.

I developed gestational diabetes at 28 weeks and had high blood pressure from 29 weeks, resulting in a diagnosis of pre-eclampsia at 35 weeks. I had my baby by emergency c-section at 37 weeks after being induced.

This was a very difficult and stressful time for my family and I - yet the care and support given by the Midwives, Doctors and Consultants supported us through this was exceptional.

Despite a difficult situation - I felt fully supported, informed and cared for. Doctors took the time to fully explain what was happening and answer any questions. Midwives were on hand whenever you needed them and were polite, caring and helpful at each check.

I was an inpatient for 2 weeks prior to having my baby and was given a private room, which was clean and had good facilities. Food and drinks were of a good standard and meal/snack times at regular intervals through the day. Health checks were completed on time and any concerns were dealt with promptly day and night. When my blood pressure readings were high I was seen by a Doctor within 10 minutes and a Consultant within 30 minutes to fully review my condition. This gave me re-assurance and confidence in the care I received.

The midwife who supported me in labour was amazing, professional, caring and supportive. Keeping me informed at every step of the induction process and supporting me through an emergency c-section after my baby became distressed. The team of Doctors, nurses and midwives who carried out my c-section were professional and re-assuring through what was a traumatic experience for my family and I.

It was an emergency situation yet I felt complete confidence in the team looking after me and my baby. I received excellent care after my c-section and close monitoring of my condition in the Labour ward. The Doctor who carried out my c-section took time the next day when my condition had stabilised to properly explain what happened. This helped me to overcome the emergency c-section by understanding what happened and why. This helped me avoid post natal depression and anxiety after a difficult 10 week period at the end of my pregnancy and an emergency delivery.

I received great care on the ward postnatally, with support to help me get up and about after my c-section and regular pain relief. I had to be re-admitted 2 days after discharge with high blood pressure, I had my baby with me and was again given the same excellent standard of care and support as before.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Nottingham City Hospital as a place to have your baby, the standard of care is excellent particularly in a complicated pregnancy.
