"I don't know what to do"

About: University Hospital Ayr / Accident & Emergency University Hospital Ayr / General Medicine University Hospital Ayr / General Surgery

(as the patient),

I have been having severe abdominal and back pain for years. Im on a ridiculous cocktail of medication daily just to get by. Pain management wont take me on as there are still tests/scans that havent been done.   I have collapsed twice, second time splitting my head open. I was taken to Ayr a& e by ambulance and sent back home that night. Then the second collapse happened three days later where I split my head open in the process.

My partner took me to a& e where in triage the nurse phoned through to say she thought I was septic. I was rushed through and the care I got in the Ayr a& e department was second to none, they couldn't have been more helpful and done a fantastic job looking after me till the next morning when I was taken to a ward, then it all changed.

I had an ultrasound and was never given any results, I was then told this morning to get dressed and moved to a rapid assessment waiting room where  I told I was to wait to speak to a consultant. This was after my obs were taken showing I still had very low blood pressure and a temperature. I have had bowel problems for years along with current UTI's.

I've been referred to the gastro department now and they've to decide if I get a colonoscopy. Ive been told by 3 different drs in the past 2 years and my gp that I need a ct scan to see whats going on. I never even got a chance to get the consultants name that spoke to me today. I felt that they were horrible and said I was talking rubbish and that no one would have told me I needed a ct scan, I tried to explain that my partner was there when they said in a& e that an ultra sound would not be suitable that I would need a CT scan to show everything.

I also told the consultant my gp requested it but the consultant was having none of it. The UltraSound showed infection on my bladder and kidneys and I was told to try trimethropin, which I then explained I was on it for 6 months and it didn't help, so if it didn't help me in 6 months then it wasn't going to do anything in 3 days.

Even the interns looked affected because of the way I was spoken to, one tried to intervene and was shot down. No one should be spoken to like that, it was disgusting. I was sent on my way after being violently sick and got home to realise they had also left the IV line in my arm. How are we supposed to put our faith in these people to help us. I have 3 kids who I haven't been able to take care of in a week, I have the mixture of tablets I've been prescribed but at this time they aren't even helping with the pain in the slightest. I honestly don't know what to do xxx

Dear Deflatedpatient86

Thank you for sharing your very disappointing experience on Care Opinion. It really does make for very difficult reading and I am extremely sorry that you have been made to feel, and treated, the way you have.

Clearly nothing can turn back the clock on how you have been treated however I hope that moving forward we can get to the bottom of what has been happening so that you can start to live as pain free a life as possible.

If you would like to contact my PA, Tracy Scott on Tel:01292 617126 or email mailto:|tracy.scott@aapct.scot.nhs.uk I can start to look into this for you.

It would also be good if I could have a brief chat on the telephone, however I understand if you do not wish to do this.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

John
