I took my extremely unwell 2 year old to out of hours at the Airdrie Community Health Centre after Nhs 24 got us the appointment. He had a fever of 40. 2 and a high heart rate. The health care assistant was very impatient with my frightened two year old and was grabbing his left to get his toe for the heart rate monitor rather than being calm and explaining to a frightened child.
We were asked to wait in the waiting area after stripping our child to his nappy. After speaking with gp he was given medication and we were asked to wait 45 mins to see if there was any improvement in his vital signs before deciding if he needed to be taken to hospital.
After 45 minutes we were called through by the health care assistant to check his heart rate and temperature, again my son was extremely upset and crying as he didn’t understand what was happening and he was very sore. Due to my child crying the health care assistant swore and said the noise was effecting their head ache and then explained they needed the bed. I was obviously too concerned for my poorly child to react to what had been said but looking back I am extremely upset.
