"One of the most friendly nurses I have ever met"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / General Medicine

(as the patient),

During a routine appointment at Hairmyres outpatients I had to have bloods taken.

Now I know from experience that this is very difficult with me. I explained this to the staff and they listened and asked which arm people had most success with. This is usually my left arm. After 2 failed attempts they switched staff to have another try, the second nurse also could not get my bloods. One of the nurses said rather confidently that their manager would be able to get my bloods, I agreed to have her try as well. After 5 minutes the sister of the department arrived, a lovely lady I think I heard someone call her Ray. She was one of the most friendly nurses I have ever met in my life and low and behold on the first go she got the bloods.

Even though the other nurses could not get my bloods they were all very nice and I was very impressed with them all.

Dear High Standard of Care

Thank you for posting your feedback on the care opinion website, it is delightful to know that despite your challenging time you had a positive experience. Ray will be thrilled to know that you thought so highly of her and I will ensure that she is made aware of your comments. I will share with the team that you were impressed with them and that you felt they were all very nice.

Warmest Regards

Kirsty

Dear high standard of care,

Thank you for sharing your experience of attending the Outpatient Department. Many people can be anxious when undergoing tests and investigations so it's important that staff are reassuring and listen to you, the patient; I'm pleased to hear that was your experience. I'm sorry to hear that staff were initially unable to get the required blood sample, although I don't think that was a surprise to you!

It will be my pleasure to share your feedback with the team and Senior Charge Nurse Ray Ryan; who, as well as being "one of the most friendly nurses you have met", is the nurse leader and manager for the Outpatient Department.

Kind regards

Rick
