What I liked
Patient Transport and the recetionist was very polite and dealt with me in a very sensetive,Also to start with the majority of the nursing staff were very corteous and polite with the exception of 2 Nurses, who was not very polite when asking my wife to move me out of the way because they claimed that my wheelchair was in the way of which it was not.
What could be improved
I am a 53 year old male and I have a variety of illnesses and medical conditions where I have to go to several hospitals.
I am disabled and mostly I have to use a wheelchair whenever I have to visit hospital whilst visiting your Hospital I found that overall the hospital was very clean and the majority of the staff I see were very civil and had no problem with the fact I was in a wheelchair.
We was rather rudely told by a nurse that we were in the way despite the fact that we had been there for about 50 minutes.Whilst I was visiting the Opthalmology Clinic I was rather shocked and upset by the remarks made by a staff member firstly moaning about the fact that I was in a wheelchair and then made a rather nasty remark about the fact I am very short sighted.
Well forgive me if I am wrong but as to the best of my knowledge people like would see people with various eye problems including what I suffer from Myopia, Definition. Myopia is the medical term for nearsightedness. People with myopia see objects more clearly when they are close to the eye.
Also factor in I suffer from Cluster Migraines where bright lights cause me to either have convulsions plus I am also being seen by a consultant in your Endocrine department at St Albans Hospital for a pituitary problem.Plus factor in I suffer from sleep apnoea.
Whilst I am posting this on your site of which I hope you do publish it I have an appointment with this mam again in March I do want to have this man attend to me in any way.
Anything else?
It was just not that this man was an ignorant person but I do not take kindly to being shouted at like I am a dog disobeying his Masters instructions.
It was humilating and very upsetting for me and my wife and if he had of checked my medical records and less time on insulting my because of my disabilities and the very fact that I am sort sighted.
I fully intend to seek justice for this wrong and I am considering taking this further after I have consulted a Solicitor on what is the best route to take.
At the very least this ignorant man needs to publicly apologize because the way I feel at the moment is to take it up with the BMA and the GMC and that is for starters because no person should be treated in this way by one of your staff regardlesss of race, creed or any other reason.
I also intend to report this to the Disability Discrimination Forum one for the way I was treated and secondly at the fact this department is not suitable for people with disability and the very fact that it is a place where people go to have any problems with their eyes.
No disabled place to put a wheelchair patient, one of your disabled toilets broken which is just not good enough.
"Absolutely dreadful treatment and a very..."
