"Dirty ward C33 Dirty toilets and shower room...."

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

Was admitted for surgery the day before, Cancer patient was very worried and confused . Went for surgery following day it took 16 and a half hours for my operation was took to ICC for 4days very poorly. I was took back to ward C33 and the care I got there was disgraceful I just had my jaw removed unable to walk as I had bone removed from my leg to use as a new jaw . I needed the operation as I had cancer and needed doing urgently , The ward was dirty the toilets and shower cubicles were filthy. I was left in a lot of pain and was told to deal with it couldn't cope with dressing changes as this was so painful . I ended up with my wound splitting open on my face and catching an infection I was moved from the ward to a cubicle on my own, I had to asked for clean bedding and also room cleaned several times , I have never ever been spoken to no have I had to beg for medication . I voiced my concerns several times and was classed as a problem patient . Well its time people and patients stood up to you I class this as intimidating and very disturbing . And I also do not like been around medical people who can also tell lies , I didn't have a choice sorry I needed life saving surgery I thank the head and neck doctor for this i will always be grateful for this. I asked to have a home visit was told yes I was then given a choice to take all my stuff home and if I had a good night at home and was able to manage they could do a discharge the following morning over the telephone . The nurses came out at home and were a bit funny I asked what was wrong they asked why I self discharged I was confused? I telephoned the hospital spoke with matron who since has sorted this misunderstanding out with all medical staff involved and since said sorry, don't want your apologies should never of happened in the first place. Would I go back to WARD C33 never and just a shame on the nice nurses .
