"This is the best gift I've ever given myself!"

About: Inclusion Thurrock (Talking Therapies)

(as the patient),

I was overworked, exhausted and my anxiety was at an all-time high. I knew that I wasn't coping very well and I needed to do something.

I am in full-time work, have a loving partner and family but just felt overwhelmed on a day to day basis. I had tried anti-depressants when I was younger but knew that this wasn't an option for me - I needed the right tools to fight my low moods and anxiety - to fight the negative thoughts in my head that I was hiding from everyone around me.

I went online and made a self-referral for the NHS Inclusion Thurrock therapy centre. I had a phone call (about 40 mins) who needed to understand how I was feeling; so he asked me lots of questions and then recommended that I see someone in the team

After about 5 weeks I had a phone call from them to set up my first appointment. I was super nervous but ended up being matched with Tanisha and she put me at ease straight away!

I had sessions across just over two months. We talked about how I was feeling, what my goals were and tracked progress over that time. I really feel like I got the tools to try and use in real life and I could feel myself getting stronger

I honestly am so pleased with the service - this is the best gift I've ever given myself! It was much needed self-care and was so important. I think i was on my way to burn out and quite severe depression but I was able to work on it with the help of my therapist and the day to day no longer seems like an insurmountable problem

Thank you inclusion thurrock from the bottom of my heart

Hi Grays Girl

Wow! That's the best example of good early intervention I can imagine....Brilliant.

If we can work early, with people who have noticed they are just not coping so well or starting to feel more anxious or low - then they learn to turn things around using the strengths thay already have as well as some new skills and knowlege they can gain in treatment. This is tremendously powerful when you realize that you can change, and you start to bring change into your life.

Of course, early intervention isn't always possible, people are different and their life situations are too. That's why psychological services need a range of interventions and types of treatment to find the most appropriate for the individuals situation as they present.

However, the aim remains the same.

To provide the most appropriate intervention to the presenting need as speedily as possible.

The right treatment, offered to the right person, at the right time.

I'm ever so pleased you found the right level of support needed and were able to incorporate these new skills into your life.

Sustainability and staying well ( or resilience ) is a crucial part of the work done with our recovery college and I wonder if you would like to have a browsw through the prospectus? Very much a part of staying well.

Thank you once again from all the staff at Inclusion Thurrock.

Many thanks
