I have had type 1 diabetes for many years now, and am amazed that I have only just discovered this website. How do I feel about the diabetes team at the David Anderson building? Beyond grateful. They cannot do enough to help you. My control is good and I don't actually require an awful lot of extra help, and yet they still push me to try new things to improve my control and whenever I do need a bit of extra help, they are there for me in an instant with advice. I'm currently going through some changes to my daily routine (moving onto an insulin pump in the near future) and have already attended an information session in which the Doctor in charge was so helpful and couldn't stress enough how willing the team are to help. I've attended carb counting classes in the past, which made a massive change to my daily control. Of course we all know how hard NHS staff work, and it would be impossible for things to run smoothly all the time, but in my many years of being diabetic I think I've maybe had ONE doctor who I didn't like. I see Dr Smart on most visits now and she is brilliant, so understanding of the condition without unrealistic expectations but still helping push you towards better control all the time (same goes for Dr Gold). How lucky are we in Aberdeen to have this great team!
