"Colorectal Surgery at Kettering General Hospital"

About: Kettering General Hospital / Colorectal surgery

(as a service user),

From my first appointment with the colonoscopy nurse, to my discharge from hospital after my surgery, I would like to applaud the exemplary care I received at Kettering General Hospital.

The staff in the colonoscopy unit were caring, patient and understanding, answering all my questions in detail and giving me all the information I and my husband needed. The follow up phone calls to give me test results were delivered in a most caring manner.

I was referred to Mr Kelkar who arranged an appointment to see me very quickly. At this appointment, Mr Kelkar explained the procedure that I was to be booked in for. His explanation was extremely thorough and clearly stated, including possible risks and what I was to expect during and after my operation.

My admission to hospital was quick and efficient. The anesthetist and staff were caring and skillful and I would like to particularly comment the theatre staff; one nurse chatted to me constantly throughout the lengthy pre-op procedures, keeping me distracted from what was going on.

After my operation, I was transferred to Deene B ward and then onto Geddington ward for my final night. The nursing staff were excellent, with only one exception who didn't seem to understand my medication. Mr Kelkar or one of his team visited daily and adjusted my medication and care.

I would thoroughly recommend Mr Kelkar as a gentle, caring and courteous surgeon. The staff of KGH, although suffering from reduced staffing levels and the consequent increased workload, are the most efficient and caring people, obviously trained to put the care and dignity of the patient first.
