"Waiting for Cardiac Surgery"

About: Golden Jubilee National Hospital / Cardiac Surgery University Hospital Ayr / Cardiology

(as a service user),

I am a relatively young man who is fiercely independent, works full time however has encountered some health difficulties over the last few years. I have developed cardiac disease including 1 x CVA and 2 x MI's, and now suffer from unstable angina. I am under the care of a Dr at Ayr and require PCI after diagnosis of serial stenosis of the LAD which is understandably very serious and requiring 5 stents or full metal jacket.   I require multiple daily GTN etc to maintain an independent lifestyle and this has taken a significant toll on my family and I while trying to be positive.

I have had excellent support from healthcare services however I am becoming extremely concerned that a crucial procedure I was informed would take 4-6 weeks as urgent (in July) was given a provisional date for Oct from GJH which I have now been informed has been delayed indefinitely due to pressure on the service. This has left me extremely anxious and scared as I require GTN multiple times daily and should be presenting to hospital however I know they will be unable to do anything as I need to wait on surgery and do not want to add pressure to the over stretched service.

I am struggling every day, calling my Dr's secretary regularly, calling GJH regularly, been asked to be placed on a cancellation list however continue to get conflicting information. My family and I continue to put our lives on hold hoping for a resolution or simply a plan of management before something even more serious happens and request support and advice ASAP as this is becoming so unbelievably frightening for us all. Can someone please help?

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.
