I want to share a very positive birth experience. The facilities at the birth unit at Treliske (Royal Cornwall Hospital) were fantastic and the care provided by the midwife was excellent. This resulted in a very positive birth and a great start for my baby and family.
Despite the midwife having to man the phone when we first arrived (and seemed to be doing 3 midwives' jobs! ) she was calm, supportive, friendly and present. She asked our view on how we wanted the labour to be and then was present, reassuring, supportive but not intrusive during the birth and also during the first few hours (as were the other staff). We were able to do skin to skin contact and have a great first breast feed in a calm, relaxed environment and this really set a positive beginning for our breastfeeding journey and life at home.
Overall it was a extremely positive experience of the new birth centre and midwife care.
