"Disappointing General Surgery outpatient..."

About: Epsom Hospital / General surgery

This is the first ever outpatient appointment I have had at Epsom Hospital and I was very disappointed to say the least.

The Consultant wasn't particularly helpful and told me that my last colonoscopy was normal when in fact it wasn't. When I pointed this out to them, I was made to feel that the small pre-cancerous polyp I had removed wasn't significant, despite the fact that my father had died of bowel cancer. The consultant, I felt, wasn't sympathetic to my concern and worry about bowel cancer, so luckily I am under another hospital for this.

What made the appointment even worse was the attitude of the nurse, who came across as rude and I felt spoke out of turn. They basically told me off for talking to the doctor about matters that they considered I hadn't been referred for. I don't think it is their place to intervene in this way and tell a patient off. If the doctor hadn't been happy talking to me, it is up to them to tell me them self. Once the nurse had made their intervention, the appointment ended pretty abruptly, which was probably what their intention was.

All in all I felt my general surgery appointment was a waste of time.
