I was newly diagnosed with diabetes. I was admitted via Admissions Unit 1 and transferred to Ward 44 the next day.
The staff there were under a lot of pressure. I was feeling a bit confused and overwhelmed re my diagnosis and what that might mean for me in the future. It was all completely new and I was totally out of my comfort zone.
A Diabetes Specialist Nurse and senior nurse on the ward both spent a lot of time explaining things to me, and demonstrated a lot of patience and empathy, teaching me how to inject insulin, record BM readings, and generally answering any queries I had - all at a time when the ward was particularly busy (I'm aware they missed out on their break on a couple of occasions).
Once again, I'd like to praise the staff on the ward for all their care, patience and support. They do a tremendous job, often under difficult circumstances, and often understaffed. They never falter - thank you. Your work IS appreciated. X
