"I left with a hairstyle!"

About: Ayrshire Hospice General practices in Ayrshire & Arran

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I haven’t had cancer.   I had a sub-arachnoid haemorrhage 2 years ago.   The hair at the front of my head was removed before surgery, the rest of my hair then fell out.   My GP phoned the hospice and explained my situation.   I was bald at the front and very conscious of the holes in my head.   I came here and saw Maggie, she sorted me out and I left with a style!   The hairdressers are fabulous, the salon is lovely, everything about it is beautiful and in my view it should be opened up to the public, it’s a good way of getting finance for the hospice.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Kirmq64,

Thank you for sharing this on Care Opinion. I am delighted to hear what a difference this has made to you. I think most of us reading your story will appreciate how a new hair do can really lift us and make us feel so much better (even when we have not been ill).

Well done to your GP too for thinking a bit 'out of the box'. If you would like to drop me a wee email with your details and those of your GP, I can make sure your GP sees this too. Alternatively, if you would prefer, call me on 01563 826222 I will also make sure that Maggie at the hospice reads your post.

My email address is Eunice.goodwin@aapct.scot.nhs.uk.

All the best for any onward recovery you may need,

Best wishes,

Eunice

Thank you so much for taking the time to post a comment.

I am sorry that it sounds as if you have had a difficult time over the past two years and I wish you well in your continued recovery.

I am delighted to hear that you found the service that we offer supportive. At the Hospice we take all comments very seriously and we believe that they help us to improve our services.

At Ayrshire Hospice we offer our services free to those that need them but I really appreciate your suggestion as it helps to demonstrates the value of what we provide. It is also lovely to here that you found the Hospice "lovely" and "beautiful". This comment will help to ease the fears that others may have about what a Hospice provides,

Thank you once again,

Kindest regards,

Margaret
