An invasive biopsy procedure was undertaken without my knowledge of what it entailed or my consent. The communication by the Dr was poor and unengaged and I was given very little information of what was going on/what to expect/the outcome etc....
I was allowed to leave the hospital without being asked if I had anyone to assist me (bearing in mind I would have brought someone had I been aware of the procedure) and I collapsed in shock at the front door on leaving. A very helpful member of staff helped me and took me into their own department to recover and then ensured I got to my car safely where I rested for a further hour until I felt less faint to drive again. I was off work and emotional at the way I was treated by a Gynaecologist. The experience was upsetting and pretty poor.
If you are told you’ll be given “the works” that means a Colposcopy. If you have this you should be offered sedation of choice and know what it entails. You should also ensure you have someone to help you home as the body can go into shock with this invasive procedure. I also received the news that all was ok by letter form weeks after my GP told me herself when I went afterwards as I was in pain for one week and concerned I had caught an infection!!
All in all - poor show by the “specialist” who also told me I could benefit from HRT treatment but to go see my GP for advice on that???? Surprised as they had more knowledge on this than my GP I was told. Just a brush off attitude.
"Given very little information"
