"Why isn't an endoscopy available on bank holidays?"

Although I would rate staff as good overall I still have a major complaint.

My husband was admitted to A&E then to the surgical ward 5 days ago (Friday before New Year ’s Eve). He needs an endoscopy. However endoscopy services are closed on bank holidays and that means the intervention will only happen tomorrow (Wednesday).

This closure is the only thing delaying my husband’s treatment. This means 2 extra days (maybe more) of misery for him.

I find this unacceptable. Bacteria don’t check the calendar to see whether we’re on a bank holiday or not. Simply because my husband had the misfortunate of falling ill just before a bank holiday week-end his treatment is second rate.

Over the past few days it has become clear that the hospital operates a 2 tier system: one from Monday to Friday and another one at week-ends and bank holidays.

Well…, I am challenging this widely held acceptance of a 2 tier system. I hope you are able to see the absurdity in all of this and I hope staff deployment is looked at again and altered.
