"No choice of hospital or room"

About: Southmead Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

I was not given a choice of Spire, Nuffield or Southmead as per MHS Choices but was just given Southmead.

I found out that this was because I have MS (I am mobile and normal weight) and it was thought that I would be in longer. In fact, I was offered discharge a day early.

I was put in a 4 bed ward despite my mother having died on my op. day (TKR). I was moved to a room after complaining.

I did not have adequate pain relief and was told on discharge that I was entitled to twice as much.

I nursed for 40 years and now 10 months later find that I probably need a knee revision owing to misalignment. Not happy!

Dear Anonymous,

Firstly may I offer my sincere condolences for the sad loss of your mother, this must have been a very sad and difficult time for you.

I am sorry to hear that you had such a poor experience when you were admitted to Southmead Hospital, clearly this is not what we would wish for any of our patients.

Please feel free to contact us on 0117 414 4467 or email us Complaints@nbt.nhs.uk

So that we can look into what happened for you.

Yours sincerely, Sue Needs, Deputy Advice & Complaints Team Manager.
