"Ineffective Practice"

About: Morris House Group Practice

I am extremely angry and upset about the service I have received at this surgery over the last few years.

I have been recently asked to find another surgery because I moved a few miles out of the area.

I have just completed a full health review at my new GP surgery and they have just told me I have an underactive thyroid condition which accounts for various medical symptoms I have been experiencing over the last few years.

I am so angry I could scream because I have been coming to Morris house for years telling then I have been feeling tired, have put on a significant amount of weight had pains in all my joints, sleeping issues and low mood.

I was virtually told by one doctor that I was a hypochondriac because of the many symptoms I said I was experiencing..

I was so upset by this I had to return the next day and tell them that they were out of order and I knew what I was feeling and it was not in my head.

I had to insist that they sent me for further tests which they did under duress.

I am quite an outspoken person so throughout this experience I had to be forceful and persistent in order to get the doctors to refer me onto specialist services.

But of course all my symptoms were treated separately and it appears that no doctor ever reviewed my file to assess what was happening to me overall so no link was made between the various symptoms I have been experiencing.

How ridiculous.

I had to tell the doctors on various occasions that I felt all my symptoms were possibly connected and about holistic approaches but clearly they were not going to listen to the likes of me, what do I know???

Its fine to have several different GPs on the books but in this practice there is no continuity of care or consistency of service.

The doctors do not know you or your case and don’t appear particularly concerned often just fobbing you off with a prescription if you are lucky.

Its not totally their fault as they have time constraints and reading files on people they don’t know is time consuming but that’s why patients should have an allocated gp who knows you and develops a relationship with you over a period of time. I feel this is much better and safer for patients as they will be aware of any complaints or deterioration in your condition without having to ask you the same questions time and again without moving forward.

I do intend to make a formal complaint about this as I have been in needless mental and physical pain for years without the support or care from this surgery, adding to my already depressed state of mind.

I am now 6 stone heavier with associated issues ,ie bad back, swollen knees etc which could have been prevented if the doctors had assessed me properly.

I feel sorry for those who are less able than me to insist on getting the service they should and hope that Morris House administrators/doctors will look at a more efficient and effective way of delivering their services to patients.
