"The standard of treatment and care was excellent."

About: The Royal Victoria Infirmary

What I liked

In January this year I had to undergo bowel surgery at the RVI. Thanks to the expertise of

my consultant and the team who carried out the procedure, the outcome was better than I could have hoped for and I am sure helped to speed my recovery.

The care I received from nurses and staff on Wards 45A and 46 was both professional and to the highest standard and I was treated with respect and dignity at all times. The cleanliness on the ward was also to a high standard

I would also like to mention one of the surgeons and a chief nurse.

The surgeon broke the news of my diagnosis of bowel and liver cancer in January 2010. From the start he always tried to keep me positive. Even though he had a busy schedule he did take the time to visit me before my operation to give me encouragement, and afterwards to congratulate me on the outcome. This was unexpected but very much appreciated.

The nurse was also present when I was told of my diagnosis and I was given her contact number if I had any concerns or questions. I did have to contact her on a number of occasions and she always did her utmost to give me the information or reassurance I needed. I should also mention that if she was unavailable when I rang she would always return my call. She has also helped to keep me positive during this difficult time.

I must say I feel very fortunate to have had my surgery at the RVI where the standard of treatment and care is of the highest standard and in my opinion could not be bettered by any private health care.
